Shoppingkart.

In terms of technology, the world is developing at a faster pace. We all have pretty much moulded ourselves to adapt to the new ‘e-world’. No, of course no criticism can be made in the regard of how advantageous the online processes have proved to be, in all aspects from e-shopping to e-wallet! Long gone are the days when we would actually feel the ungovernable excitement to ‘go out for shopping’, instead of sitting at home, and shop through the connectivity of multi-screens. On one side we cannot restrain ourselves from the easiness of the ‘e-world’, the relief from the crowd-fighting ambience, saving up the disbursing transport fare and the time and labor, phew! That’s a lot shedding of burden . Despite all these comfort zones, the heart is somewhere still latched to the footpaths of New Market . Oh! come on! I mean, Myntra provides way better fancy products, but where’s the fun in bargaining on the fixed prices? Have you seen the new collection arrived in one of the shops in Deshopriyo park? Nowadays it’s  more about knowing online sites than the nooks and corners of your own city which provide more arresting products. There lies an elusive warmth in building up a humanitarian relation with a mere shopkeeper. Tell me, how much pleasure can a machine bring in that case? Talking of discounts, no that cannot be debated on, but somewhere I don’t feel, clicking on the “Buy Now” button on a discounted item can offer even half the self-satisfaction that comes along with scrutinizing every angle and purchasing rather than purchasing and scrutinizing.

India has witnessed majority shopaholics being inclined towards online shopping in the past two years. Once upon a time when friends gathered for the evening adda at tea stalls they proudly displayed the goods they have purchased that day. This hasn't changed much (well except that the tea stalls evolved into malls and cafes). What changed was the sentence that followed, whereas people used to say, “Guess how much the shopkeeper asked for it at first and guess how much I paid in the end?" Now they  are rather acquainted saying, "Guess who caught the Crazy Deal of the day and got X% discount with free delivery?". One cannot be blatantly judged better than the other. Both have their places and both come to use in their specific times. But the online shopping game does bring with it the question "How far are we dependent on our phones?" with most seasonal and festive shopping now being done online who knows what else will join the rat race to enter the 'Cloud Age'.  Till now the digital shops and their physical counterparts have existed peace , but how long until one decides to do away with the other ?

Blaze in a Blazer

Winter outfit often has less to do with not having the right items, and more to do with knowing how to put them together.  From adding a strategic belt to your winter coat to wearing that perfect scarf - the options are endless. With the unpredictable weather, we're inclined to discuss how to deal when the world is saying "wear sweaters" but the thermostat is saying "wear shorts".

If you want to add a polished touch to any outfit, then you better finish your look with a blazer. For a perfect easy casual look go for cute blazers in cool shades, unique details, cropped cuts or prints worn over your favourite top and stylish bottoms - midi skirt, jeans or wide legged trousers.

If you want a more preppy look then go for classy silhouettes with bright or dark colours. The classic office looks are simple and chic, but there is always a chance to try on design with modern edges and leather trims. Shopping for blazers is quite simple and fun - a good buy can be worn in several fashionable ways. Here are some ideas :

1. A checkered blazer worn atop abstract print silk blouse that is tucked in wide legged high waist burgundy trousers.

2. A classy black blazer can be worn with dark blue trousers. The silver shoes add a sophisticated touch to this smart look.

It can also be paired with printed trousers to add the right amount of quirk.

3. This look is very urban and is street style inspired. We see a party appropriate embellished blazer worn atop printed tops and styled with modern jeans.

The blazer can also be worn on a simple maxi dress or a midi dress for a casual look.

4. Invest in a beautiful skirt suit that is a great choice both for formal and casual wear.

5. Stripes never go old. A classic striped blazer can be teamed with a pastel pencil skirt and funky sunglass for a modern look.

6. Nothing is more feminine than floral prints - team it with solid colours so that the blaze stands out.

Abstract prints look great too.

Vardy - A TALE TO TELL !

At the age of 16 he was released by Sheffield Wednesday and almost gave up playing football after he went to earn his living in a carbon fibre company.

Started his senior career with Stocksbridge Park Steels who ply their trade in Division One  South Of The Northern Premier League . Surprised I guess ? Because most of u like me have'nt even heard about this league .

He went on to join Halifax town of the Northern Premier League where he went on to score 27 goals in his debut season and even bagged the “Palyer’s Player Of The Year”award .

He then moved on to Conference Premier League side , Fleetwood Town , where he helped them win the title by scoring 31 goals and he even won the “Player’s Player Of The Year” award.

Jamie Vardy playing for Fleetwood town , 2012.

He then went on to sign for Leicester City In May 2012 for a non league record Transfer fee of 1 million.

[ Leicester have signed non-league striker Jamie Vardy for £1m. What has football come too. Jesus Christ!!

— Jack Nex (@JackNex87) May 18, 2012 ] - This was the response after the signing !

This season has been nothing short of a dream run for the Foxes . The normally relegation battlers have been in terrific form and are currently placed in the top four  of the English Premier League along with giants like Manchester City , Manchester United and Arsenal .

Yesterday we witnessed something that we will recall for many years to come . Claudio Raneiri's men not only refused to bow down to the mighty Manchester United but also the one with the batton , the one James Vardy broke the legendary Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record by scoring 11 goals in a row.

“Well done, Vardy. You’re number one now and you deserved it. 11 in a row.” Was the ex Manchester United striker's response after the match . ]

He , at 28 , has been the main man leading to Leicester City’s Fine form this season . Leicester city , back on November 20th 2014 were at the bottom of the Premier League table and just a year has gone and they are now at the opposite , more respectable part of the table . His story is an inspiration to thousands of Non-League footballers today and to anyone else aiming to make it big, showing that hardwork and determination can truly take you from rags to riches.

Village India - A New Concept in Tourism

A herd of buffaloes wandered back from the fields, followed by women in brightly coloured sarees, matkas (water pots) balanced gracefully on their heads. Blue jays darted overhead as smoke rose from the fires and the aroma filled the air. A reclusive cow chewed on a cabbage, a man on a bicycle wobbled past slowly. The children played on the path between the thatched houses while several of the elders, pulling indolently on their beedis, squatted by the track to discuss the day’s events. It’s a magical time of the day when dusk settles in a thousand villages across the Indian subcontinent and the night creeps in. Indians have a word for it…Godhuli, the homecoming.

Sadly, very few visitors get to experience the day to day beauty of rural India, focusing instead on well known urban centres such as Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. Estimates suggest over 60% of the 650,000 British visitors to India in 2005 traveled within the Golden triangle, their trips consisting almost solely of sightseeing tours to historical monuments, religious sites and heaving bazaars. With most companies offering similar itineraries during the 5 months tourist season, it is very hard for the travelers to escape the hoards and experience the true nature of India.

In the event that we ever visit a remote nation, one of their tourism attractions are their homesteads, might it be grape vines or plantations. They are mechanical economies but then they are paying such a great amount of significance to agribusiness, that they are advancing it to a tourist fascination. They offer their visitors their originality and that is why visitors feel fascinated. I feel India does not offer its creativity to the outside voyagers, who visit us. We exhibit to them the same things they find in their nations too separated from our social legacy and landmarks. We exhibit to them just the westernized portion of India, a section, which they are acquainted with, which has been carefully coated to attract them. Why don’t we show them our villages?
Not any longer. Presently an innovative organization has thought of a novel method for getting their
customers out of the old and exhausted shackles, of tourism and into the heart of India, permitting them to witness the life that by far most of Indians live. In these lesser-voyaged zones there is a richness of life, ensured to match the royal residences and extravagance of Golden Triangle and a shade of serenity that will stay with you for ever. And with a number of trips on offer, from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to Uttaranachal and the mighty Himalayas, this is an original way to explore real Indian life in a way that benefits both the visitor and the host. For its not just visiting… it is interacting as well.On these trips they might spend the morning with a farmer milking his buffalo, help him turn the milk into dahi and join his family for an afternoon meal on a banana leaf plate. They might sit in the shade of a banyan tree beside a temple and listen to a sadhu preach. They could stroll through the foothills of the Himalayas, stopping to talk to locals that they pass by, knowing about their ways of living and methods of survival, or drift slowly down the holy River Ganges camping by small settlements at night under the open sky and dance in front of a bonfire and enjoy a meal of fruits and juices.

They will obviously enjoy this because that would be doing something new for them and give them the essence of real India. It would give them a lifetime experience of how India really is apart from its luxurious half-face. It would give them the opportunity to enjoy its natural treasures apart from materialistic treasures.
On these outings they would find the different societies that exist in our convention rich nation which nobody would discover in books. They would be getting a perspective of Rural India, the India which the supposed privileged people think about as a disgrace to their nation.
Provincial tourism showcases rustic life, craftsmanship, society and legacy at country areas and connections with the travelers provide substantial advantage the nearby group monetarily and socially.
We need to popularize this new found concept of “village India” through physical as well as social media so that people across the globe become aware of it, we need to think different in order to arise that curiosity w within the people so that they feel  an urge to visit our – Village India.

The David takes on the Goliath

This weekend Premier League will see, the top two teams fight it out for the top spot in the King Power Stadium. Leicester City, the current league leader, will host their immediate followers Manchester United on Saturday.

The "underdogs" have surprised us all with their scintillating display of football this season .No one expected them to top the league after a few months of top flight football . But Claudio Ranieri's men have not succumbed to the bullying of the Premier League giants. Loius Van Gaal has described Leicester top-scorer Jamie Vardy as a “nasty” problem for united and a great player, but he will be wary of Vardy’s partner in "crime" Riyad Mahrez. United this season having the meanest defence will look to contain Jamie Vardy. It is also to be remembered that their attack this season has not  been sensational, with only 19 goals scored (the least among the current top 6 teams) the onus will be on Juan Mata (United’s leading goal scorer in the league), Anthony Martial (the young sensation from AS Monaco) and Wayne Rooney (who is still searching form).

Leicester City on the other hand will look to consolidate their current league position with a win like the last season. They will be looking to improve on their record of number of goals concede which remains the highest among the top 4 teams

Kick-off: Saturday 5.30 pm (GMT) and 11.00pm (IST).

Venue: King Power Stadium.

Last season: Leicester City 5 Manchester United 3.

Referee: Craig Pawson.

Leading scorer: Vardy (Leicester city, 13 goals) and Juan Mata (Manchester United, 4 goals).

Trivia: Jamie Vardy could break a Premier League record by scoring in an 11th consecutive game against the very team that the current holder, Ruud van Nistelrooy, set the benchmark for 12 years ago.

10 FILMS WITH THE MOST UNEXPECTED TWISTS

We human, have an inexplicable desire to witness the unexpected. Whether it drains out every emotion from our body, leaves us breathless or merely wondering what just happened, a plot twist on the silver screen affects all of us.

There have been numerous films till date which managed to thrill us with unexpected plot twists.

Here's a list of 10 best films with unexpected plot twists-

10. Magnolia (1999)

The film begins with a monologue on co-incidence and proceeds to tell the story of interrelated characters going through various stages of crisis. Beautifully shot, this magical film by Paul Thomas Anderson stars Tom Cruise, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Jeremy Blackman among others in a brilliant ensemble cast. The movie ends with countless frogs falling from the sky. Does that sound strange?  Well, the ending is magical in it own way.

9. The Sixth Sense (1999)

A lot of people will disagree with this film being ranked so low on this list but The Sixth Sense does seem a tad too slow for a film with such a brilliant ending. M. Night Shyamalan has a reputation for churning out great endings and lives up to his reputation with this film. Bruce Willis plays the role of a troubled psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe who is treating a child Cole Sear who is able to see and talk to the dead. Harry Joel Osmont plays the role of Cole Sear in one of the best performances by a child actor ever.

8. Shutter Island (2010)

Martin Scorsese's classic mystery film  has Leonardo DiCaprio playing the role of Edward Daniels, an U.S. Marshal who has been sent to a place for the criminally insane, named Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a patient named Rachel Solondo. As he investigates, and the mystery thickens he uncovers facts suggesting that the island holds many secrets. Master filmmaker Scorsese directs                                                                                     a cast of DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben                                                                                               Kingsley in this film.

7. Irreversible (2002)

Gasper Noe directed this highly trippy film which plays backwards. It stars Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci . The story itself is quite high on the shock value, and just when you think it cannot get any worse, the film ends with a small depressing revelation which you were not expecting. And, don't forget that the film plays backward!

6. Following (1998)

Christopher Nolan's debut film was this indie neo-noir thriller. It's about a man who likes to follow people and how he ends up being the victim of a layered conspiracy  With a minimalistic budget, the director took turns writing, directing, editing and even producing the film.

5. Se7en (1995)

David Fincher is the only director to feature on this list twice. Se7en starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and Gwyneth Paltrow is about a serial killer named John Doe whose modus operandi is highly influenced by the seven sins mentioned in the Bible. The ending consists of a surprise cameo from Kevin Spacey as the serial killer.

4. Fight Club (1999)

The 1999 psychological thriller starring Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter was directed by David Fincher, considered to be the master of modern thrillers. Fight Club, one of Fincher's early films is about a man going through a mid-life crisis who stumbles upon a mysterious seller of soap named Tyler Durden (Pitt), who seemingly turns things around for him.

3. Oldboy (2003)

A South Korean neo-noir mystery thriller with stunning visuals, Oldboy is the second film in Park Chan-wook's The Vengeance Trilogy. It follows the miserable drunkard Oh Dae-Su who is mysteriously kidnapped and kept in a cell for 15 years in absolute isolation from the outside world. On being released he tracks down his captor and unearths revelations which shock both Dae-Su and the viewer. Oldboy is an important film which speaks volumes about human nature.

2. Psycho (1960)

The American psychological thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock boasts of a chilling eeriness throughout it's 106 minutes of running times. It stars Janet Leigh as Marion Crane who has stolen 40,000$ from her employer and is on the run. A rainstorm forces her to halt for the night at Bates Motel, owned by the polite yet presumably sinister Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) who has a sour relationship with his mother and holds an interest in taxidermy. Famous for "the shower scene", Psycho with its brilliant ending ranks second on this list.

     1. The Usual Suspects (1995)

Bryan Singer's American neo-noir mystery crime thriller revolves around a cripple con man named Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey) who is one of the few survivors in a blast at San Pedro Harbor. On being interrogated by the cops, he tells them how he and his partners had been manipulated by the mythic crime lord Keyser Soze to pull off a multi-million dollar heist which ended in the blast. The Usual Suspects has the most unexpected plot twist of all times and without saying much, it is better to leave it to the viewer to experience the shock.

Period Shaming and India!

Period shaming is not something new in India. Through the generations, we have been taught that 'periods' or menstruation is something unclean and taboo. It is 2015, even today, the number of people who are comfortable with talking about menstruation are  negligible compared to the ones who accept it as a regular part of life.

However, if one notices the recent headlines, period shaming has been publicly supported by an elected representative of the people: a section of whom MENSTRUATE.

The phenomenon that is as natural as any other. To be clear, menstruation is simply the shedding of the uterine wall that has blood vessels preparing to receive the fertilized egg to nurture it into a foetus and gradually to a human infant. almost all female mammals menstruate.
But that is "impure" now. Is it? Sir, with all due respect, did you think about it when you were in your mother's womb nurturing yourself from that "impurity"? Did you find it " impure" when your own child was being nurtured in the "impure" chamber? I guess not.

The rising intolerance has spread its wings so wide that you now cannot tolerate the natural phenomenon that occurs after a girl becomes reproductively capable. You disrespect that.

Ever heard of the Kamakshya Temple of Assam? It WORSHIPS the menstruating Goddess. Yes. The very same Goddess that you worship. But maybe you shouldn't. Or maybe you should even ban the worshipping of the Kamakshya Goddess. Why? Well the answer is simple, because you are incapable of even respecting women who menstruate. Just like your mother did, your grandmother did, your wife and your sister might have too. And your daughter too will. You disrespect women by disrespecting this phenomenon that every uterus bearing woman has in common. With ALL DUE RESPECT: We do not do this of our own accord or for our own pleasure. We menstruate because we are reproductively able. Able of giving birth to a child who probably some day will be just like you raising the bar of intolerance. Or a child who will hopefully someday give women the respect they deserve.

With respect- Someone who menstruates every month.

The Aftermath

Shambolic.

Disgusting.

Silly.

Representative of how intolerant India has actually become since the arrival of You-Know-Who.

In the aftermath of the events that followed after the veteran actor's statement against the decadence and precarious situation of the countries "tolerance" , Amir khan has not only proved how correct his statement was , but also showed the gullibility of the Great Indian Middle Class. We condemned Kiran Rao's statement of quitting India before , we still do ! It's a free (?) country, a person has the freedom(?) of issuing his/her statements, and so can the Press ! We are at the liberty of condemning a persons' idiocy ! But NOT to invoke social chaos and an utter disregard of reverence .

Since his last statement,Amir khan has been the subject of disappointing humiliation. The e-commerce giants Snapdeal ,he is the brand ambassador of, has had to distance himself from the comments of the actor because a nation-wide uproar of uninstalling the application spread like wild fire!

Social boycotts and public outrage ( burning his posters and ofcourse creating a chaos) is nothing new. He has been pronounced an "anti-national",some asking him to immediately pack his bags and leave for (yes once again) Pakistan!

Hindu Sena activists turned up at his house hurling abuses and demanding an apology ! When in time,Shiv sena stepped in and he was asked to release his films outside India! In his hotel at Ludhiana where he has put up , a swarm of "protesters" swarmed up only to place a 1-lakh bounty on a slap to this renowned actor !

UP BJP Chief Laxmikant Bajpayee has declared that if India was an intolerant country ,Khan would have not been able to marry a Hindu woman ! Most are  bent on asserting that whatever he earned was because of the "charitable" nature of this nation!

Yes,his statements hurt sentiments.Yes,we were grieved to see someone so loved having other thoughts about staying with us !  But does the actor deserve all this after years of social activism and his extraordinary work for our cinema? Is this what he has earned over the years? THINK!

Condemn his statement with proper reverence ,because this person deserves all the respect ! His statements might not be overwhelming , but it clearly portrays how unambigous our citizens are! We implore you,be cogent enough ,don't help him establish his point further! Don't get carried away and tarnish his image so much so that he actually leaves us!

Amir Khan , we are sorry !

KOLKATA : Coming of age

Kolkata, the heart of West Bengal lies amongst the hearts of a race which is famous their almost god-like devotion for culture. The love for fishes, afternoon naps and bhaar’er chaa is woven into the essence of every Bengali. We have a knack for  anything old and would rather prefer to spend a night reminiscing than being out in the city. SO what happens when a city full of these people decide to go upbeat? Why it comes off brilliantly of course! Recently the whole city was shaken of her personalized shoulders and had taken a step to keep the cultural game alive. Two events held within the span of two months showed how much we Bengalis are capable of change. The  Ahare Banglaa Food Festival and The 21st Kolkata International Film Festival! People are getting into the whole global food deal and turkeys are sharing freezers with chickens quite often. Seeing this change leave it to the Bengalis to introduce some culture in the whole affair. The Ahare Bangla Food Festival featured live performances and a fantastic array of dishes to choose from. The Taglines which followed the advertisements were quite a chuckle. Tags like “Koel er Kachakachi” which loosely translates to “Cuddling with the Cuckoo”.

The name itself is a brilliantly witty pun in bengali, please excuse me as it can’t be translated. Food from around the globe were being prepared as fast as the gathering crowds gobbled it all up.

Next we come onto the 21st Kolkata International Film Festival. He who has passed through the Golpark region in the recent days can’t have missed the posters clouding the streets. One look at the Posters tells us that they are the brain-children of a brilliant mind. Colorful and Familiar images were used but with unique twists which made them Kolkatan.

Here we see the Columbia Pictures Logo but with the Signature Victoria Memorial Angel of our City.

The 20th Century Fox Logo with the Bengali Twist.

Looking upon these recent events it can be said with utter surety that the Bengalis have joined and advanced quite a bit in the race of modernized culture. A race famous for being megalomaniacs (sorry for the stereotyping) has taken to growing the events around the year. There was a time when The Book Fair was the only thing to look forward to. But now more and more events crop up to keep us from working too hard. Who wouldn’t love a day away from their mundane hardworking lives to let of a bit of steam and embrace some culture while they’re at it?

The Girl in the Mirror

For so long I used to believe
The girl in the mirror used to be me.
I look at her now, her face stained with tears,
Something is in her mind
Nightmares, worry and fears..
Her stressed out smile,
The way she bats her eyes
Crystal clear, drowned in tears
Her hazel eyes
She looks so scared, so out of place
I wonder what is wrong!
Why is she fighting not to cry?
I look at her face, she mumbles,“At least I tried.”
This can’t be me, she looks so alone
I see her push her hair off her face.
So ashamed, she looks disgraced
I see her smile, but I can’t tell what is behind it
Her memory is so clear, a story, but you’ll never find it.
She wants to collapse,
She no longer wants to breathe,
The monster I’ve become,
This can’t be me!
The tired eyes, that stare right back
She is dripping with misery
And depression dose loom
Oh! How her fake smile lights up the room
Her face lowered to the floor
She silently cried
Who am I now? The girl I despise?
What happened to her smile?
Why is it so fake?
I look into the mirror
She’s just about to break
And as she wipes the tears from her eyes, and turns off the light
Looks back one time, and whispers, “Goodbye!”
